101 Cartoons, 101 FunnySnowflakes
Art Gallery Serdica presents 14 Bulgarian cartoonists who made a sign to the capital’s audience for the upcoming winter holidays, the cheerful situations around them and the joy of young and grown up from the New Year’s surprises.
In “101 Cartoons, 101 FunnySnowflakes” we will see works by 14 famous names in Bulgarian cartoon: Chavdar Nikolov, Ivailo Tsvetkov, Jovcho Savov, Trayko Popov, Irien Trendafilov, Tsocho Peev, Alla & Chavdar Georgievi, Maya Tcholakova, Milko Dikov, Gencho Simeonov, Valentin Georgiev, Walex Alexandrov, Nikola Georgiev – Kayo, Lyubomir Mihaylov.
The period of the exhibition is from December 11, 2019 to January 10, 2020 and thus the art space of Art Gallery Serdica at Zhenski Pazar Market will welcome the New Year with a smile.
In addition to enjoying the amusing creative glance at the upcoming holidays, visitors to the gallery will also be able to give a smile for Christmas as a gift, as the cartoons in this exhibition will be offered at affordable prices.
The “101 Cartoons, 101 FunnySnowflakes” exhibition brings together 14 prominent Bulgarian artists in the cartoon, proven over the years, behind which are many personal performances around the world and in the country, many prestigious awards and recognitions. Many of them have also been on the jury of the world’s largest cartoon exhibitions.
“We are fortunate to have been able to bring those individual artists together in the same hall to melt the hearts of the audience. The idea for “101 Cartoons, 101 FunnySnowflakes” is a continuation of the “101 Drawings” cycle, which Art Gallery Serdica launched last year for Christmas. The first exhibition brought together prominent Bulgarian artists and students from the National Academy of Arts. Now we have the same goal to allow the art to be for everyone who wants to make a gift for Christmas and have an original work by a Bulgarian artist at an affordable price,” said Dragomir Dimitrov, executive director of Pazari Vazrazhdane Ltd., the company running Zhenski Pazar Market and Art Gallery Serdica.
“Cartoon is a fragile tree that grows freely, carefree, with no care, in a sandy-rocky soil. Evergreen, ever in leaf, in spring and summer, and autumn, and winter. A small tree with a few twigs, the thorny twig of political satire, the twisted twig of black humor, the ever-blooming twig of white humor, the twig of parodies and metaphors of speculative cartoons, and the eternally dissatisfied twig of social caricature. “We shall be grateful to Art Gallery Serdica that in these cold winter days there will be a window to the cartoon tree,” says Lyubomir Mihaylov, one of the authors in “101 Cartoons, 101 FunnySnowflakes” and adds that humor, festive mood and the fun in the cartoons that will be shown in Art Gallery Serdica will break the ice in our hearts and remind us that in fact we are all sitting at the same table.
